CHS Girls' LAX, Boys' Tennis Extend Win Streaks

Cheshire High School girls' lacrosse (8-2) extended their win streak to four games, beating Southington 19-4 at Bartlem Recreation Area. Senior Maria Blois supplied five assists (personal-best) and three goals. CHS led 5-0 and 8-2 by halftime.
Senior Alyssa Hague and junior Kathleen Kalbian each compiled four goals and an assist. Sophomore Emma Farrel had two goals and assists) apiece. Junior Nicole Stauffer also scored twice. Junior Christy Myjak and sophomore Danielle Chambrelli supplied a goal and assist each. Junior Alison Hoynes and sophomore Michelle Federico added goals. Senior Kayla Hoynes picked up first assist. Senior goalkeeper Cortney Andes made 10 of her 12 saves (tied career-high) before halftime.
Cheshire hosts Amity (3-6-1) on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Boys' Tennis (10-1)
At Branford (7-4), CHS won their ninth straight match 6-1. Sophomore Jeremy Reichentahl (6-2, 7-5), seniors Drew Henderson (6-1, 6-2) and Tanner Barros (6-2, 6-4), and sophomore Nick Anthony (6-1, 6-4) were individual winners. Senior Brad Mahar and junior Casey Barry (6-2, 6-3) and seniors Jeff Lee and Usama Choudhry (6-1, 7-6) were also victorious.
Head Coach Jim Matthews is two wins away from 250! Cheshire visits Cromwell's Watrous Park to face host Xavier on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.
Softball (7-5; 2-2 in Housatonic Division)
Cheshire lost 2-1 against Daniel Hand (4-7) in eight innings. Hand freshman Kathryn Omdahl, who tripled during the eighth, came home on a single by junior Sabrina Simpkins. It was the only earned run that junior Nicole D'Amato (seven hits, five strikeouts, two walks) allowed.
Hand scored first in the third inning, but Cheshire tied the game during the fourth. An fielder's choice from junior Kierstyn Bourdeau scored sophomore Bryanna McIntosh. McIntosh, junior Kathryn Vitale, and freshman Casey Harding all had singles.
CHS is currently one win from securing a bid to the Class LL Tournament. They visit Lyman Hall (2-8; 0-4) on Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. Cheshire claimed the first meeting 17-1 on April 16.
Boys' Lacrosse (5-5)
Fairfield Prep (7-2) defeated CHS for the second time 17-10 to stay unbeaten in Connecticut. The Jesuits twice reeled off five straight goals. They held a 8-3 edge at halftime.
Seniors Kevin Adams (assist) and Spencer Hackett and sophomore Matt Samuelson (assist) all had two goals. Senior Dylan Baumgardner contributed a goal and assist. Junior Tom Dupont and sophomore Ben Hamel tallied goals. Senior goalkeeper Will Devine totaled 19 saves.
Cheshire visits Glastonbury (8-1) on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Head Coach Rich Pulisciano is one win away from 200!
Boys' Golf (5-2; 4-2)
At the Farms Country Club, Cheshire split with Sheehan (170-176, win) and fell short against Amity (319-341, loss). Eric Dietrich led the way in both matches by shooting 40 and 80, respectively. Sophomores Tom Arisco (41, 89) and Jake Ecke (46, 84), along with junior Mike Stanton (43, 88), also contributed.
Cheshire visits Bronson Country Club today to play host Shelton at 2:30 p.m.
