Cheshire Youth Theatre under the auspices of Cheshire Performing and Fine Arts Committee in conjunction with the Cheshire Parks and Recreation Department present exciting new theatre programs for this summer. There will be offerings geared to a each age group. For the elementary students, they will be doing CYT Summer Musical Theater Camp. For middle school students there will be a more advanced camp focusing on performance techniques for the CYT Broadway Revue. For current high school students CYT will be presenting its first Radio Show.
CYT 2012 SUMMER MUSICAL THEATRE CAMP
Do you love to act? Sing? Dance? Do you want to learn more about how a theatre production comes together? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, then CYT is looking for you. Join them this summer for two weeks and be a part of a new, original show. Participants will work with instructors in music, dance, and drama to develop a broadway-style review featuring music and scenes from past CYT productions. Some of those shows include: The Wizard of Oz, Willy Wonka and Annie.
Participants will be creating in a fun and comfortable environment to help develop each child’s individual talents. There will be an orientation on the first day for instructors to get to know each actor and help place them in scenes and musical numbers. The camp will culminate in two performances of their review. Dr. Beth Lorenzo will be returning from last year’s smash production of Willy Wonka as Musical Director of the camp and Christopher Cavallo will be coming to us from Hartford Children’s Theatre to serve as Director. Amy Moffat, a member of the National Dance Alliance Collegiate Championship Finalist, ECSU Dance Team will be choreographing.
Camp begins each day at 9 am and runs until 4 pm. Participants will need to provide a snack and their own lunch. Please pack drinks and food with ice as no refrigeration is available. Registration has begun so do not delay!

CYT BROADWAY REVUE
Join us this Summer for a more intensive look at Musical Theatre! If you are looking to refine your skills, gain more confidence, and take your performing to a higher level this is the place for you. Our more experienced campers will be focussing more on performance practices, audition techniques, character development, and how to bring a performance together. Participants will work for two weeks culminating in a Broadway Revue. Scenes, songs and dances for these campers will be chosen with Middle School aged performers in mind. Possibilities include selections from popular shows like 13 and Hairspray.
Participants will work with talented instructors to build a revue. CYT Radio Show
This spring join CYT as it takes a flash back to the days before television and YouTube and produces its first radio show. This modern take on an old fashioned live stage radio show will be offered for students entering 10th grade through graduating seniors. This will be a fully scripted radio show including participant-created commercial breaks. The sound effects will be done live on stage and will help enhance the drama.
Participants will get to flex their acting muscle portraying different characters and bringing them to life in a different form of storytelling. “Radio Acting” is more about painting a picture for your audience with your voice and less about your physical activity. Much like an old radio show that was broadcast in front of a studio audience, CYT will also have an audience. This show will be performed twice. First performance will be at the final class and the second performance will be Friday, July 20 before the Summer Concert Series at Bartlem Park. The radio show will serve as an opening act for the concert and you will have the opportunity to perform for hundreds of people. Kirstin Kennedy who has worked for The Huntington Theatre Company in Boston and Hartford Stage will be directing.
The radio show rehearses twice weekly: Thursdays, 6 to 8 p.m. and Sundays, 12 to 3 p.m. at Artsplace. Actors will be a major part of the show’s creation and helping to modernize the art form. There are a maximum of 20 spaces for the radio show so register soon
