Cheshire High School tennis teams both won this morning. The girls (1-3) picked up their first win against Hamden (0-4). Seniors Erica Larson (6-1, 6-1), Katie Seggerman (6-1, 6-4), and Emily Roberts (6-4, 6-2) were singles victors. Seniors Taylor Strange/Alex Hirt (6-0, 6-1), juniors Maegan McGee/Anna Toscano (6-0, 6-0), and senior Theresa Fitzpatrick/junior Lindsey Garibaldi (6-2, 6-4) took doubles. It was the first doubles sweep.
Cheshire visits Wesleyan University on Wednesday to face host Mercy at 10:30 a.m.
In their third straight victory, the boys (4-1) posted a sweep at Lyman Hall. Freshmen Jackson Ajello/Abdullah Choudhry (6-0, 6-1) and David Light/Ricardo Valentin (6-1, 3-6, 12-10), along with Reilly Eldredge (6-0, 6-0), won their first varsity matches. Sophomore Jeremy Reichentahl (6-0, 6-0) and seniors Tyler Hajjar (6-2, 6-1), Drew Henderson (6-1, 6-0), and Tanner Barros (6-0, 6-1), also recorded victories.
The Rams host East Haven on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Softball (4-2; 1-0 in Housatonic Division)
Cheshire pounded out 17 hits in the division opener, a 17-1 win over Lyman Hall (1-5; 0-1). CHS scored nine times in the first inning. Junior Nicole D'Amato allowed two hits and walks apiece, adding six strikeouts.
Senior Caroline Kushner (three runs) and junior Kierstyn Bourdeau both collected three RBIs from four hits. Junior Lauren Fountain (two runs, two RBIs), sophomore Bryanna McIntosh (three runs), and freshman Casey Harding (two runs scored, RBI) contributed two hits.
The Lady Rams travel to Sheehan (4-2) on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
Baseball (2-4; 0-1)
In the Housatonic Division, Cheshire lost 8-2 at Shelton. The Gaels scored five times in the first two innings and didn't surrender a hit until senior catcher Tim Budd's sixth-inning single. Budd ended the shutout by doubling home junior Matt Gardener (error) and sophomore Alex Augusto (walk) in the seventh. Sophomore Collin Jordan singled in the seventh. Shelton compiled 15 hits against juniors Vin Sansone (five innings; two strikeouts, walk) and Zach Goul (sixth; three hits, two walks).
Cheshire hosts Housatonic rival Sheehan on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
