Parks And Recreation Ready To Fill Up Your Child's Vacation

April break has come for Cheshire Public Schools as students will be off this entire week, returning to class Monday, April 23. Many families plan trips during this school hiatus but, for those who stay local, the Cheshire Parks and Recreation Department offers some traditional activities that always draw a crowd. These programs are scheduled each year around the April break so that local children looking for something to do will always have some place to go.
Here are the activities planned:

Tuesday, April 17
Fishing Derby at Mixville Recreation Area
Come at 9:45 a.m. to register for free
Event lasts from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Open to ages 16 & under

Family Fun week at the Community Pool
12 to 3 p.m.
$5 per family per day or $1 per person per day

Wednesday, April 18
Go Fly Your Kite! at the Bartlem park Baseball Diamond
10 to 11 a.m.
Free and open to all ages
Children will be entered into a free raffle at 10:50 a.m.

Family Fun week at the Community Pool
12 to 3 p.m.
$5 per family per day or $1 per person per day

Thursday, April 19
Touch A Truck at Bartlem park
10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
This event is free for the public
Please bring a nonperishable food item to be donated to the Cheshire Food Pantry.

Friday, April 20
Quinnipiac River Cleanup
Enjoy a springtime canoe trip down the Quinnipiac River and help remove debris and garbage from this important river habitat. Bring water and lunch; canoes and equipment will be available. Participants will be shuttled back to their vehicles at the trailhead at the state commuter parking lot on Route 322, Southington/Cheshire border. Event will be cancelled in case of a steady rain. Children ages 10 and older are welcome when accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required. Meet at the commuter parking lot for a 9 a.m. departure. Trip will last until approximately 1 p.m. Fee is $5 per person.
