Several Car Burglaries Have Police Stepping Up Patrols

April 1, 2012 by Josh Morgan

A rash of car burglaries have the Cheshire Police Department taking notice, as patrols are being increased in the neighborhoods affected.
Over the last few days reports of break-ins in the Dundee Drive and Guinevere Ridge area of Cheshire have spiked. In response, Cheshire Police said patrols in these areas are being upped. According to Lt. James Fasano, the person, or persons, responsible are committing “crimes of opportunity,” as unlocked vehicles appear to be the target.
“The person, or persons, are going through unlocked cars and taking unlocked items,” Fasano stated. “Windows are not being broken. Doors are not being jimmied open. It’s a crime of opportunity.”
There have been reports of cash, electronics, and credit cards stolen from the unlocked vehicles in residential driveways. Some vehicles were rummaged through but nothing was taking, police said. Fasano said no matter what time of day or the location, even if it’s your own house, “lock your doors.”
“We cannot stress this enough: lock your car doors,” Fasano said. “Stop being a victim of these crimes.”
Fasano is asking for the public’s cooperation to report any suspicious activity to the Cheshire Police Department.
