Local Resident Helps Out With Civil Air Patrol

On Saturday, Feb. 25, cadets from the Civil Air Patrol, including local resident Devin Moore, conducted a large search and rescue simulation exercise (SAREX ) at East Granby Farms in East Granby. Emergency locator beacons were strategically placed to represent IMG_6256-2.jpga downed aircraft. The cadets were tasked with finding them in a timely manner. Additional training consisted of compass reading, pace count and line search. This mission was hosted by the Waterbury 143rd Composite Squadron located in Waterbury at the Army National Guard Armory. Also participating was the Bradley Field 103rd Composite Squadron and officers of the C.A.P. Wing Command located in Middletown.
This exercise was part of the continuing search and rescue commitment by the Civil Air Patrol to their state and country. The Civil Air Patrol is “the” official auxiliary of the United States Air Force and also assists in disaster relief missions, Homeland Security and drug interdiction.
