Cheshire School District officials are reminding all to be mindful of the rules regulating behavior on and around the new turf field behind Cheshire High School.
The field, installed at the Maclary Athletic Complex last fall, is a synthetic turf field, unlike the natural grass surface it replaced. Officials believe the new field will not only hold up better to conditions, it will also allow the district and community to hold several more events on it than previously.
However, Director of Management Services Vincent Masciana recently stated that some issues had arose regarding the use of the field.
“After the last few weekends, our Buildings and Grounds staff has had to pick up litter, coffee cups, and sports drink bottles, neither of which are permitted,” stated Masciana. “Worst of all, dog droppings were removed. Pets were never permitted on the field even when it was natural turf so this is not new.”
Masciana also stated that Lane 1 and 2 on the track are off limits to walkers or runners, as to ensure that part of the track does no get overly worn out.
To combat these issues, Masciana circulated a list of rules to follow:
*No sports drinks, soda, coffee or beverages other than water.
*No glass or metal beverage containers.
*No food, seeds, nuts, gum, or chewing tobacco.
*No dogs or other pets.
*No tent stakes.
*No sharp objects that could pierce or damage the turf.
*No metal cleats.
*No golf practice.
*No pyrotechnics or fireworks.
*No bicycles, scooters, skateboards, rollerblades, etc.
*No unauthorized vehicles.
Use of the Turf Field must be approved and scheduled through the Athletic Director’s Office.
