Preview Of This Week's Cheshire Herald

February 2, 2012 by John Rook

Have you gotten a copy of your Cheshire Herald yet? If not, here is what you're missing:

*The Board of Education approved Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Florio's budget request for $1.8 million in new spending. The recommendation will now be passed on to Town Manager Michael Milone and, eventually, the Cheshire Town Council. Read what the members had to say about the proposal, and what they believe the Town must do going forward.

*There is approximately one million square feet of office space in Cheshire and the Town Council recently hired a local company to assess those buildings. Find out what the assessment is about, and what the Town hopes will come from it.

*A new fire academy is expected to be erected on state-owned property in Cheshire, but some neighbors are worried about what it will mean for them. Learn what they have to say about the Academy in this week's Herald.

*Ready for the Super Bowl? In Cheshire, like the rest of Connecticut, loyalties are split between the New York Giants and New England Patriots. Read what a couple of die-hard local fans have to say about the big game.

*Make sure to check out our editorial this week, where we question whether it is appropriate to hold school on Veterans Day, and our weekly Editor's Notebook column, where we discuss the case of Meredith Graves, who was arrested in New York City for carrying a concealed weapon.

*As always, make sure to read our Around Town, Sports, and Schools sections for all your local happenings.
