Parked cars have become the target of smash and grab thefts in Cheshire over the last few weeks. Thieves are smashing windows and taking whatever valuables they can grab. Here is a notice from the Cheshire Police Department:
Over the last several weeks the Cheshire Police Department has experienced a spike in thefts from automobiles. The thefts are usually occurring in the morning hours on weekdays and weekends between 9 a.m. and noon. The suspect or suspects typically break a window and remove items of value, including pocketbooks and electronics.
The majority of the thefts have occurred at fitness centers and the linear trail parks. It appears the suspect or suspects watch individuals putting items under their seats then wait for them to secure their car before breaking a window and taking the valuables. Residents are reminded not to leave any valuables in their cars and lock their doors.
We are asking for the public's help by reporting any suspicious activity immediately to Cheshire Police at (203) 271-5500.
