Christmas and Chanukah is behind us and New Year’s Eve is quickly approaching, meaning that the holiday season is all but at an end. That means only one thing: budget season is here.
Members of all Town of Cheshire departments will be compiling and presenting their budget requests over the next few months as the Town begins to put together the framework that will make up the next fiscal year’s Operating Budget.
The first data to be presented will be that of Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Florio, who will advise the Board of Education as to how much he believes must be spent in the coming year to keep Cheshire schools running properly.
As such, the Cheshire Board of Education has announced the schedule of public information meetings regarding the proposed 2012-2012 Cheshire school budget. These meetings will serve as public budget reviews and will provide Board members the opportunity to solicit input and ideas from the public concering the proposed budget and any cuts that might be made.
The following meetings are scheduled:
*Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 — Superintendent’s budget meeting to be held at Town Hall (Council Chambers) at 7:30 p.m.
*Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012 — Public budget review and administrative review of accounts, held at Dodd Middle School at 7:30 p.m.
*Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2012 — Public budget review and administrative review of accounts, held at Dodd Middle School at 7:30 p.m.
*Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 — Public informational meeting with Board member responses to Superintendent’s budget and possible adoption of budget, if possible, to be held at Dodd Middle School at 7:30 p.m.
*Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 — Special meeting of the Board of Education to adopt a budget, held at Dodd Middle School at 7:30 p.m. (Note: This meeting will only take place if the Board fails to adopt a budget at the Jan. 24 meeting.)
