Can't Decide What To Do This Weekend? Here Are Some Suggestions

December 2, 2011 by John Rook

Well, the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center was lit this past Wednesday and, already, Christmas music can be heard playing in local retail stores. It's that time of year once again.
If you are searching for some things to do this weekend, and need a break from some early shopping, check out these events:

*Saturday, Dec. 3
First Congregational Church Christmas Fair
First Congregational Church
111 Church Drive
9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Are you in the Christmas spirit? If not, check out First Congregational Churches annual Christmas Fair. There will be plenty of festive things to see and do at the fair, which promises to be fun for the entire family. Free parking is available in the back of the church.

*Saturday, Dec. 3
United Methodist Church Chocolate Café and Festival of Trees
United Methodist Church
205 Academy Road
3 to 8 p.m.

Do you like chocolate? What about Christmas trees? If those sound two of your favorite things, United Methodist Church is the place to be this weekend. The event will includea chocolate café with desserts and beverages, crafts and baked goods for sale, and a Christmas Shoppe. Oh, and there will be a silent auction for some decorated table top trees. Don't miss out.

*Sunday, Dec. 4
Cheshire Christmas Tree Lighting
First Congregational Church Green (across from Town Hall off of Route 10)
Begins at 5:45 p.m.

Nothing is better suited to get people in the seasonal mood than the traditional Town Tree Lighting ceremony. At 5:45 p.m. the caroling will begin and, shortly afterward, the tree will be lit, marking the official beginning of the season in Cheshire. Don't miss this opportunity to ring in the holiday season with friends and neighbors.

*Monday, Dec. 5
Harlem Wizards versus Cheshire Rockin' Rams
Cheshire High School
525 South Main Street
7 p.m.

Though it isn't a weekend activity, plan ahead to see a rockin' good basketball game between the Harlem Wizards and the Cheshire Rockin' Rams, a squad made up of Cheshire school faculty and administrators. There will be slam dunks, fun tricks, and plenty of laughs for everyone involved. Come cheer on the Wizards and some educators as they take to the hardwood to raise money for the participating schools.
