If you're waking up Saturday morning and the weekend planning book still has a few open spots, take a look at some of these local events happening today and tomorrow:

Saturday, Sept. 24
Roaring Brook Hike
Meet at trailhead off Roaring Brook Road (off Mountain Road)
9 to 10:30 a.m.

*If you love nature and being outdoors, you'll love this escape into the wild. Celebrate National Public Lands Day with this enjoyable walk. The hike is rated as moderate to difficult with some steep inclines. Wear appropriate gear and plan for wet and muddy terrain.

Saturday, Sept. 24
Tag Sale to benefit the Kathy Mordente Solli Foundation
128 Elmwood Drive
8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

*If you want to find some good items at a discounted rate, check out this tag sale Saturday. The Solli Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting education, early breast cancer detection, and supporting families when they need it the most.

Saturday, Sept. 24
Nicholas LaTorraca Memorial Blood Drive
St. Bridget School, 171 Main Street
8 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

*Giving blood is one of the best things a person can do, and you can do that while also honoring the memory of Nicholas LaTorraca, a young man who lost his life battling disease.

Saturday, Sept. 24
Mari's Miles For Smiles
Norton School, 414 North Brooksvale Road
Begins 7:30 a.m.

*Turn out for a day of family fun and a challenging road race at the second annual Mari's Miles For Smiles. The race begins at 9:30 a.m., with signup beginning at 7:30 a.m. A Family Festival, with games and food, will begin at 8:30 a.m. Come out and enjoy the fun.

Sunday, Sept. 25
Chili Cookoff
220 Old Towne Road
Between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

*If you enjoy chili, come out for the Chili Cookoff on Sunday, sponsored by Sally Bowman Real Estate. Several local restaurants will compete to see who has the best chili around. Donations to the Cheshire Food Pantry will also be accepted at the event.
