The Town Council approved the turf field and track replacement projects on Tuesday night, meaning ground could be broken in the coming weeks.
A site meeting is planned for this morning, August 10, and the contracts should be signed before the end of the week. With a 6-3 affirmative vote from the Council, both projects now are able to move forward after years of discussion.
The only new cost to taxpayers will be approximately $189,000 that the Cheshire Town Council approved on Tuesday night to supplement a previous appropriation for the track. The Turf Committee handed over a cashiers check for $231,610 on Friday afternoon and it has been deposited into the Town's bank account. All together, the Turf Committee donated more than $270,000 for the project. Coupled with a $525,000 state grant for the field, it was enough to move the project forward.

As I make my daily drive to work heading from the North end down through the South I am amazed at the state our town's infrastructure or lack of. Pot holes and cracks in the road galore . Some of the roads were recently " repaired". Where are our priorities? So what on earth are we doing spending money on turf at the high school at the " approximate" cost of $ 189,000.00??? Let's get real and prioritize what is necessary in this economy and not spend money foolishly.
