Applications for the State of Connecticut Tax Relief for Elderly and Disabled Renters Program will be taken by Cheshire Youth & Social Services Department between June 1, 2011 and September 15, 2011.
In order to qualify for the Connecticut Tax Relief for Elderly and Disabled Renters Program, renters must have reached age 65 by December 31, 2010 or be totally disabled as determined by the Social Security Administration.
The income guidelines for the program require that a single person’s income should not exceed $32,300. Married couples may be eligible if their income does not exceed $39,500. Eligible households may receive grants from the State of Connecticut.
Applicants must provide proof of all 2010 income including social security (form 1099), pension, employment wages, and interest. Applicants must provide a copy of their 2010 federal income tax return if one was filed. In addition, renters must provide proof of rent and utility bills paid in 2010, and award letter from energy assistance if applicable.
The Cheshire Youth & Social Services will be scheduling appointments for residents of Hillside Village and at the Beachport Housing complex. Dates and times to be determined shortly.
