Voters will be turning out today to cast their vote for a new State Senator to represent the 13th District. Former State Senator Thomas Gaffey (D-13) had won re-election to his ninth term in November of 2010 but decided to resign before taking the oath of office after he was arrested on larceny charges and pled guilty to double-billing the state for thousands of dollars.
Republican Len Suzio, who had lost to Gaffey in November, and Democrat Thomas Bruenn, a Meriden Board of Education member, were quickly named candidates by their respective parties and have been campaigning since January for the right to replace Gaffey in Hartford.
Polls opened this morning in Cheshire, which is a part of the 13th District, at 6 a.m. and will close at 8 p.m. tonight. Polling stations are located at Cheshire High School, Dodd Middle School, Norton, Highland, and Doolittle elementary schools.
