Emergency Personnel Respond To Fire At Grand Apizza

February 10, 2011 by John Rook

A fire in the kitchen area of Grand Apizza Restaurant erupted this morning, forcing firefighters and police officers to respond to the scene.
The restaurant, located at the intersection of South Main Street and Academy Road, reported the fire at approximately 11 a.m. and members of the fire and police departments were on the scene almost immediately. As firefighters worked to extinguished the flames, a portion of Route 10, from Academy Road to Wallingford Road, was closed to traffic.
Firefighters could be seen on the top of the roof on the back portion of the restaurant, while others worked inside to secure the building. When the fire was extinguished, police erected hazard cones on Route 10 to create one narrow lane so traffic could begin to pass.
The Cheshire Police Department has issued a press release warning travelers that the area outside the restaurant will remain reduced to one lane for the next few hours, and motorists should expect delays.
It was unclear how much damage was done to the restaurant or if the fire spread to any other part of the building besides the kitchen. No injuries were immediately reported.
