The Board of Education voted 6-1 on Thursday to pass Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Florio's budget recommendation off to the Cheshire Town Manager untouched.
The budget proposal calls for a 5.09 percent increase over last year's approximately $60 million budget, which equates to roughly $3 million more in spending. Board members suggested that the budget proposal represented what the district needs in order to maintain current levels of programs, but most seemed to acknowledge that the Town Council was likely to reduce the request once it comes up for review.
The lone dissenting vote was offered by Board member Alan Sobol, who stated his belief that the rather large increase request would be “dead on arrival” when it made it to the Town Council.
