Frappier Shoots For The Stars
Cheshire High School freshman Andra Frappier brought considerable hype to the girls' golf program.
A quick study, Frappier has played with elite players more than twice her age. She found immediate success at the high school level, as well.
Frappier was Cheshire's top player from the 2010 opener, earning medalist status in 14 of 16 matches. The Rams enjoyed a 17-4 record (school-best) and captured the Southern Connecticut Girls' Golf League regular season crown. Cheshire also earned a State Open bid for the third straight year.
“I think it's really cool,” said Frappier. “The first few matches were a little rocky, but I've adjusted. I thought it could be a good season. It (hard work) shows in the scores.”
Last Monday at Traditions Golf Course in Wallingford, she became the program's first SCGGL Champion. Her score (75) helped Cheshire place second overall (379) behind Mercy (373) at the annual championship.
“That felt great. I didn't think I would shoot that well,” Frappier recalled. “I had a great practice round and everything came together. I've played there a couple times, but it had rained before.”
Junior teammate Meg Aitro earned All-SCGGL Honorable Mention for the first time.
“This was the first time I have been part of a team. I love it,” reflected Frappier. “I'm an only child, so these girls are like my sisters.”
Orange Hills Country Club (Orange) hosts the State Open on June 8. Cheshire is scheduled to tee off at 9:30 a.m.
“I'm very excited,” said Frappier. “The way I've been playing throughout the season has boosted my confidence. We are practicing hard this week.”
