New PZC Keeps Status Quo With Officers

December 16, 2009 by Josh Morgan

The Planning and Zoning Commission elected its officers for the next two years, with the same familiar names filling the same familiar roles.
Sean Strollo was re-elected chairman unanimously, and Earl Kurtz III was unanimously selected as vice chairman. Tali Maidelis was again named secretary of the PZC with unanimous support. Before the meeting began, Strollo asked for a moment of silence for Lloyd “Mickey” McPhee, who died on Nov. 30 midway through his first term on the PZC.
It was then back to business for the Commission, although it was an extremely light agenda. It a matter of minutes, a slight change on the Dodd Middle School kitchen project was heard in a public hearing, and approved unanimously by the Commission. A second hearing for a re-subdivision application was tabled until the Commission’s first meeting in January.
Town Planner William Voelker also informed the Commission that zoning maps in Cheshire would not be changed, after the state denied the request from Wallingford to change the maps. Wallingford wanted to change the zones on the state map, a small portion of which would have impacted Cheshire, and the Town opposed the application. Ultimately, the state ruled against Wallingford’s request.
