Flynn Contributes To First National Crown For Trinity Men's Ice Hockey

On Saturday, Cheshire resident Mike Flynn helped Trinity College men's ice hockey (25-3-1) win their first Division III national title 5-2 against University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After Wisconsin evened the score 2-2 in the third period, the Bantams scored the final three goals.

Bishop Captures First State Open Titles At Yale Pool

At Yale University's Robert J.H. Kiphuth Exhibition Pool, Cheshire High School boys' swim nabbed fifth place (252.5 points) in the State Open final. Junior Karl Bishop picked up his first titles in the 200- (1:41.44) and 500-yard (4:35.61) freestyles. He tied Staples senior Daniel Williams in the 500-yard race. Cheshire hadn't held a State Open crown since 2002.

Bishop Takes Home Two Class LL Titles, Cheshire Boys' Swim Takes Third Place

At Wesleyan University's Freeman Athletic Center, Cheshire High School boys' swim earned third place (442) in the Class LL final. Junior Karl Bishop secured his first Class LL titles in the 200- (1:43.34) and 500-yard (4:33.79; All-American consideration) freestyles. The 500-yard time eclipsed his school record (4:39.68).

In Friday's Division II quarterfinal at Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport, Cheshire High School ice hockey (ninth seed, 9-11-2) came up short 4-2 against Conard (top, 16-6). The Chieftains outscored CHS 3-0 in the third period to battle back for the victory.

Lenehan Chosen As AAC Scholar-Athlete Of The Year

University of Connecticut senior guard Pat Lenehan, a Cheshire resident and 2011 graduate of Xavier High School (Middletown), has been named American Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year. As a molecular and cell biology major and finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship, Lenehan has a 4.0 grade point average.

CHS Divers Compete In Class LL, Ice Hockey To Play In D-II Quarter On Friday

On Thursday, Cheshire High School junior Sal DeLucia (13th, 293.15) and freshman Christophe Gessman (21st, 259.3) participated in Class LL Diving at Hamden.
Cheshire heads back to the same pool on Saturday for Swim Qualifying at 3:30 pm.

Cheshire Ice Hockey Eliminates Host North Haven In D-II First Round

In Tuesday's Division II First Round at Northford Ice Pavilion, Cheshire High School ice hockey (ninth seed, 9-10-2) picked up their second 5-2 win over host North Haven (eighth, 9-8-5) this winter. CHS never trailed after taking a 3-0 lead in the first period. They pulled away by netting the final two goals on an empty net.
