Cheshire AL Senior Baseball Drops Thriller To Stamford In Super Regional Final, Juniors Fall In Final Four

On Wednesday in the Southern Division Super Regional final, the Cheshire American Legion Senior baseball team (fourth seed, 26-9) dropped a marathon game 1-0 to top-seeded Stamford (29-4-1) in 13 innings at Palmer Field in Middletown.

Bishop Defends His YMCA National Swim Title In Record Time

On opening night of the YMCA Long Course National Championship in Indianapolis, Indiana, Cheshire Y/Sea Dog Swim Club's Karl Bishop defended his crown in the men's 1,500-meter freestyle (15:35.36) on Wednesday and lowered his previous national record (15:47.16) set last year.
On the women's side in finals, Casey Loughlin (14th, 17:47.23) and Jaime Robinson (24th, 18:13.5) placed in the top 25.

Downey's Blast Propels Cheshire AL Senior Baseball Over Stamford, Forces Deciding Game For Super Regional Title

On Tuesday, Cheshire American Legion Senior baseball (fourth seed, 26-8) defeated top-seeded Stamford (28-4-1) 4-1 in the Southern Division Super Regional at Palmer Field in Middletown. With the score tied 1-1 in the sixth inning, Pat Downey (single, walk) smacked a two-run home run to put Cheshire ahead for good.

Cheshire AL Senior Baseball Rallies Late To Defeat Waterbury in Super Regional

On Monday, Cheshire American Legion Senior baseball (fourth seed, 25-8) came back to defeat second-seeded Waterbury 5-4 in the Super Regional at Palmer Field in Middletown. Cheshire fell behind 4-1, but they rallied with four runs in the sixth inning.
Altrin Kabashi hit a three-run double to tie the game 4-4. He scored the winning run on an error.

Cheshire AL Senior Baseball Rallies To Beat Stratford In Super Regional

On Sunday at Palmer Field in Middletown, Cheshire American Legion Senior baseball (fourth seed, 24-8) came from behind to beat Stratford (third, 25-6) 10-3 in the Super Regional. Cheshire trailed 3-1, but scored three runs in the sixth and six more in the seventh to secure the win.

Cheshire AL Baseball Teams Earn Split Of State Tournament Action On Saturday

On Saturday, Cheshire American Legion Junior baseball (fourth seed, 23-4) defeated Glastonbury (12th, 15-13) 5-2 at Cheshire High School to reach the 17-U Northern Division Final Four next week.
Matt Geyda was the winning pitcher, going six innings. Adrian Nawrocki relieved him in the seventh. Sean Goodrich paced the Cheshire offense with three hits.

CHS, Dodd Fall Sports Physicals Are Coming Up

Cheshire High School fall physicals for Marching Band and girls’ sports are planned for Wednesday, Aug. 10. Football physicals will run the next day. Boys’ soccer and boys’ cross country teams are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 18.
CHS exams will all start at 9 a.m.

Cheshire AL Baseball Teams To Play In State Tournament Action On Saturday

On Saturday, Cheshire American Legion baseball will compete in a pair of state tournament games. The Senior team (fourth seed, 23-7) plays top-seeded Stamford (27-4) in Super Regionals at Middletown's Palmer Field. The Junior squad (fourth, 22-4) hosts Glastonbury (12th, 15-12) at Cheshire High School.
Both games start at 12 p.m.
