Co-Op Girls' Ice Hockey Earns Sixth Straight Win On Thursday, CHS Boys' B-Ball Team Drops Thriller On Senior Night

On Thursday, Cheshire High School boys' basketball (10-10, 4-4 in Hammonasset Division) dropped the regular-season finale 50-48 to West Haven (11-8). West Haven took a 46-38 lead in the fourth quarter, but the Rams came back to tie the score at 48-48 on a three-pointer by junior James Pettit with under 12 seconds left. The Blue Devils raced down the floor and after being fouled, senior Carl Edwards sank the winning free throws with 1.5 seconds remaining.
CHS trailed 24-20 at halftime, but outscored the Blue Devils 13-5 in the third quarter. In rallying to win the road game, West Haven swept the regular-season series with Cheshire.
Senior Drew Hart had a team-best 11 points for the Rams. Junior Eric Angelone scored eight points, while seniors Jensen Bassett and Matt Geyda and junior Will Graikoski netted six each.
Angelone and Geyda drained two three-pointers apiece. Graikoski, senior Derek Frione, and junior Matt Rosadino also hit three-pointers, joining Pettit. Junior Ben DeLaubell made a buzzer-beating jumper to close the third quarter.
Bassett (tri-captain), Hart (tri-captain), Mike Quint (tri-captain), Frione, Geyda, Evan Russo, and manager Matt Davies were recognized on Senior Night. Senior cheerleaders Kaitlyn D'Andrea (co-captain), Alexis Yamin (co-captain), Natalie Dicks, Rosa Palmieri, and Liana Quinones were also introduced before the final home game.
The Rams await seeding for the Southern Connecticut Conference Tournament that starts next Thursday.
Girls' Ice Hockey (12-5)
At Newington Ice Rink, Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Co-Op secured their sixth straight victory 2-1 over host East Catholic/Glastonbury/South Windsor Co-Op (8-4-6). The Blades received goals from North Haven sophomore Shannon Reilly and Amity senior Bailey MacNamara. CHS freshman Nadia DiNatale, Amity freshman Tess Csejka, and North Haven senior Kiley DeGrand earned assists.
On Friday, the Connecticut Blades travel to Darien Ice House to face host New Canaan (9-5-4) at 8:45 p.m.

The Rams visit Trumbull for the start of the Class LL Championship at 4 p.m.
