In Monday's finale, Cheshire High School girls' basketball (5-15, 1-7 in Housatonic Division) defeated Lauralton Hall (4-16) 39-33 to break a five-game slide and earn split of the season series. CHS honored Kaylyn Clairmont on Senior Night.
CHS outscored the Crusaders 13-7 in the second quarter to take a 26-13 advantage at halftime.
Junior Brady McQuade paced the Rams with nine points. Junior tri-captain Julia Schaff scored eight points, while freshmen Emma Watkinson and Ariana Perlini tallied six each.
Junior tri-captain Sara Mulligan supplied a three-pointer. CHS received two points from Clairmont and sophomores Mia Juodaitis and Jade Barnes. Junior Emily Yonych added a free throw.
Michelle Vieira has finished her first season as head coach.
Boys' Basketball (10-9, 4-4 in Hammonasset)
The Rams took a 51-49 advantage to the fourth quarter, but Shelton (12-7) battled back to win 70-64 at home. The game was tied 36-36 at halftime. Led by senior Jeff Stockmal (game-high 29 points), Shelton swept the series in the regular season.
For CHS, Junior Eric Angelone matched his personal-best totals for points (23) and three-pointers (four). Seniors Drew Hart (15) and Jensen Bassett (10) also had double-figure points.
Senior Derek Frione contributed eight points. Junior Ben DeLaubell supplied four points and junior James Pettit sank a three-pointer. Junior Will Graikoski also hit a free throw.
Cheshire comes home to face West Haven in Thursday's regular season finale at 7 p.m. Bassett (tri-captain), Hart (tri-captain), Mike Quint (tri-captain), Frione, Matt Geyda, and Evan Russo will be honored on Senior Night.
West Haven rallied to beat the visiting Rams 49-45 on Dec. 27.
