CHS Ice Hockey Extends Win Streak On Tuesday, Basketball Teams Split, Varsity Slate For Wednesday

On Tuesday at Wesleyan University, Cheshire High School ice hockey (9-7) picked up their fourth straight win 5-2 over New Milford (3-13). Cheshire scored three times in the last 2:31 of the second to go ahead 4-1.
Junior Liam Killea netted two unassisted goals just seven seconds apart. Senior Ammar Chaudhry added Cheshire's fourth goal.
Senior assistant captain Matt Federico scored the first goal in the second period. Senior captain Vinnie Solla tallied another goal for a 5-1 lead in the third.
Junior Jared Purslow collected two assists and sophomore Jason McKinley recorded an assist. The Rams finished with a 39-19 lead in shots. Senior assistant captain/goalkeeper Tom Bishop provided 17 saves.
On Saturday, the Rams travel to Avon Old Farms School to face host Farmington Valley Co-Op (10-2) at 8 p.m.
Boys' basketball (9-8, 3-4 in Hammonasset Division)
Cheshire won 57-55 at Sheehan (8-9, 0-8) to win the regular-season series. Down 25-23 at halftime, the Rams outscored their rival 26-14 in the third quarter. CHS held off a rally in the fourth.
Senior tri-captain Drew Hart (13), senior Matt Geyda (11), and senior tri-captain Jensen Bassett (10) represented double-digit point scorers. Junior Will Graikoski posted nine points and senior Derek Frione contributed seven. Junior Eric Angelone and senior tri-captain Mike Quint had four and three points, respectively.
On Friday, CHS hosts Guilford (12-4, 3-4) at 7 p.m. On Jan. 20, Guilford won 75-66 in overtime.
Girls' basketball (4-14, 1-6 in Housatonic)
Cheshire came up short 50-39 against Shelton (12-6, 6-2). CHS took an 18-3 lead in the first quarter, but the Gaelettes cut the lead to 24-20 at intermission.
With the game tied 31-31 in the fourth quarter, Shelton reeled off 10 straight points to take control and sweep the season series from the Rams.
For CHS, junior tri-captains Julia Schaff (nine) and Sara Mulligan (eight) led in points. The Rams received six points from senior tri-captain Kaylyn Clairmont and junior Brady McQuade. Junior Emily Yonych had five points and freshman Ariana Perlini scored four. Freshman Emma Watkinson sank a free throw.
On Friday, Cheshire visits West Haven at 7 p.m. CHS won 37-25 on Jan. 20.

Wrestling
The Rams host New Haven Co-Op in the dual-meet finale at 6 p.m. Captain Sean Black and Quinn Boucaud will be honored on Senior Night.

Cheshire teams have had the regular-season finale against Darien, Fairfield Prep, Farmington, and Wilton postponed to Feb. 15 at Mount Southington. Start time is 4:45 p.m.
