CHS Ice Hockey Teams Win On Saturday, Cheer Squad Places In SCC, Girls' B-Ball Team Falls To Wilton

On Saturday, Cheshire High School ice hockey (8-7) secured their third consecutive win 4-3 over Branford (6-6) at Wesleyan University. CHS scored two goals in each of the first two periods, building a 4-0 lead before holding off a three-goal surge from Branford in the second.
Senior captain Vinnie Solla (short-handed) and senior assistant captain Matt Federico converted goals in the opening period. Sophomore Ben O'Connor and senior Ammar Chaudhry scored in the second. Junior Liam Killea and sophomore Jason McKinley recorded assists.
Cheshire led 42-25 in shots. Senior goalkeeper/assistant captain Tom Bishop posted 22 saves to help the Rams qualify for the Division II Tournament.
On Tuesday, CHS hosts New Milford at 4 p.m.
Girls' Basketball (4-13, 1-5 in Housatonic Division)
Cheshire fell 69-50 to Wilton (10-6). Wilton led only 34-31 at halftime, but they outscored the Rams 13-5 in the third quarter.
Junior tri-captain Julia Schaff led CHS with 14 points, nine coming in the fourth quarter. The Rams received eight points from juniors Brady McQuade and Sara Mulligan and freshman Emma Watkinson.
Junior Emily Yonych earned six points. Freshman Ariana Perlini had three points and junior Mia Pulisciano chipped in two points. Sophomore Jade Barnes drained a free throw.
On Tuesday, the Rams host Shelton (11-6, 4-3) at 7 p.m. Shelton won the first meeting 46-28 on Jan. 17.
Girls' Ice Hockey (8-5)
Amity/North Haven/Cheshire Co-Op beat host Lauralton Hall (1-12) 9-3 at Bridgeport's Wonderland of Ice. The Connecticut Blades swept the season series.
CHS freshman Nadia DiNatale earned two assists and sophomore Meaghan Hogan secured an assist.
North Haven freshman Melissa Montesi compiled four goals (personal-best) and an assist. North Haven sophomore Shannon Reilly earned a hat trick.
Amity sophomore Andrea Delvechio and senior Jena Casman (assist) also scored. Amity junior Olivia Dittman tallied two assists and freshman Sara Cable contributed an assist.
Next Thursday, the Blades host Guilford at The Rinks at Shelton. Start time is 7:30 p.m. The Blades won 10-1 on Dec. 27.
Cheerleading
Cheshire placed third in the Southern Connecticut Conference Championship at Shelton.
